Gifts for Horse Lovers

Holiday horse

When I was a little girl, I wished upon a star every night for a horse. Eventually, my wish for my own horse was granted; probably due to the fact that I wore my parents down. While not everyone is able to own a horse, there are plenty of gifts for the horse lover from cowboy boots to books about horses or equine art and photography.

Equestrian apparel and gear

Let’s start from the bottom and work our way up. Everyone knows that a real cowboy or cowgirl has got to dress the part. What’s more important than a  pair of cowboy boots handcrafted in the USA?

On my holiday wish list, Justin’s AQHA Remuda Black Quill Ostrich boots.

For the cowgirl who likes comfort in the saddle, try Wrangler’s Q Baby ultimate riding jeans. With a slimming stylish cut, these jeans, with Lycra or Spandex, are a cowgirls best friend.

I’m continuing with my Western theme with Rock 47 by Wrangler. My long sleeve, y-neck plaid top is peach in color and has a faux leather and stud design on the back yoke. It is 100% cotton and ranges in size from xs to 3xl. Thank you Wrangler for taking the plus size cowgirl into consideration. FYI, the Rock 47 brand includes children and men’s clothing.

Horse jewelry and hand bags

For the English rider and fashion forward gal, consider snaffle bit jewelry from Rebecca Ray Designs. What makes this palomino bit bracelet special is that $10 of every purchase benefits retired races horses via CANTER USA. The American couture company also makes a cuff bracelet of harness leather and brass snaffle – the palomino bracelet is a limited addition. If you need a new purse, check out the horse and dog-themed couture hand bags.

Working our way from the bottom to the top, what could be more important than riding protection for your head? Whether you ride English or Western, Troxel has you covered – literally! I have owned several Troxel helmets during my life, my latest helmet is the Troxel Rebel – for rebellious cowgirls!

Books for the horse lover

I haven’t read this book yet, but it is on my list. On the Trail of Genghis Khan: An Epic Journey Through the Land of Nomads

For the young adult horse lover: Objects in Mirror

Do you have a book to recommend to the horse lover?

Horses as art

One of my favorite gifts of all time is a custom portrait my parents gave me of one of my horses. As my horse is no longer living, this treasured work of art has remained with me from my youth to adulthood.

Whether you prefer a custom horse painting or custom equine photography, both Jessi Sparkman and Manuela Stefan bring horses to life with their unique artwork.

Montana horseback riding vacation

For the horse lover who likes to go horseback riding on vacation, I have two Montana suggestions, Lone Mountain Ranch or The Ranch at Rock Creek.

Lone Mountain Ranch in Missoula, Montana is the ultimate in a family-friendly horseback riding vacation and offers an excellent children’s program. This ranch also serves as a great base camp for discovering Yellowstone National Park.

The well heeled cowboy and cowgirl looking for an ultra-deluxe vacation should head to Philipsburg, Montana and The Ranch at Rock Creek. This Relaix Chateau property offers private log homes for families, deluxe rooms in Granite Lodge and for the privacy seekers in the group, reserve one of several canvas tent cabins by Rock Creek. Both of these dude ranches offer fly fishing, excellent dining and are open year round.

What are you wishing for this holiday season?
