I recently had the pleasure of going on a horseback riding vacation at Triple Creek Ranch in Darby, Montana. The photos below were taken during the Women’s Rocky Mountain Rendevous, a five day retreat for fun loving cowgirls. On this particular trip I had only ridden with one rider previously, her name was Barbara Barrett, a business woman, cowgirl, diplomat and the co-owner of this amazing Relais & Châteaux property – my favorite Montana hideaway in the the Bitterroot Mountains. If you love horses, gorgeous scenery, gourmet food and good friends, this is the place for you!
During this adventure on horseback I was able to ride on CB Ranch in the Bitterroot Valley, participate in a cattle drive at a neighboring ranch, and ride through Ponderosa pine forests while looking at herds of wild elk, watch magnificent mule deer leap and bound and see eagles soar overhead in Montana’s Big Sky country. Truly, this was nature at its finest.
Insider Tip: Women’s Rocky Mountain Rendezvous is held annually in May. This is an ideal horseback riding experience for mothers and daughters, girlfriend getaways, beginning riders, advanced equestrians and women in need of recharging their life. I can’t recommend this place enough. The horses and wranglers are fantastic. If you want even more time in the saddle, you’ll want to check out Klicks for Chicks, held annually in October.
