Horseback Riding Vacation in Panama

Have you been on a horseback riding vacation in the Republic of Panama? Heck, I haven’t been horseback riding in Costa Rica yet.  But if I were to go horseback riding in Panama, I’d stop for a couple of days at Rancho Caldera Inn. This Green Globe-certified Eco-lodge is located in Panamas western hills, near the Costa Rica border.  Boquete is a 45 minute drive from David, an hour west by plane from Panama City. I discovered Owner Gina Cronin’s boutique inn on the micro blogging site Twitter.  I asked Gina what guests could expect on a horseback riding vacation at Rancho de Caldera.

Horseback Ride with a View

“Guests ride up the hill for pretty views,” said Cronin. “True beginners ride through the back roads of town, which offer a glimpse of life here in this small town of 1000+ locals.”  Cronin says that the view from above is gorgeous. Guests typically ride through or around a small herd of cattle.  Both of these horseback rides are $20 per person.  There is also a ride to the hot springs which is about 45 minutes over and slightly faster on the way back because,  as you know, the horses tend to up their walking speed when they know they are heading home.

Horseback Riding Vacation to Panama for Soak in Hot Springs

Guests spend an hour or so at the hot springs, soaking in the 100 degree, all natural pools.  The horseback ride to the hot springs is $35.  Finally, guests can “rent a horse” during their stay, reserving one horse for each morning or afternoon to ride around the area as desired. A guide is required on your first horseback ride so that you safely and confidently get to know the area of Boquete.  This horseback ride is $20 for each morning or afternoon, with the staff  preparing the horses daily.

Have you been on a horseback riding vacation in Panama or Costa Rica? What are your favorite things to do in the Republic of Panama or favorite things to do in Costa Rica?
